Social Media is a powerful way to disseminate information – personal or professional – with networks spanning the globe and connecting people with similar interests, strengths and goals.
To nurture dialog on agricultural issues and increase local understanding of activities and research carried out by CGIAR centers and Research Programs (CRP), two pilot CGIAR Facebook pages have been launched in Southeast Asia: one in Viet Nam, the other in Lao PDR.
Generating content in both English and local languages, the pages aim to connect and foster discussion between various regional stakeholders and local partners, including but not limited to researchers, government representatives, students, and the general public. By creating a platform for free exchange of opinions and information, the pages are intended to not only build on existing partnerships and relationships, but to create new connections. In this way, the centers and CRPs can garner local support for CGIAR research towards a food secure future.
The major goal of the pages is to provide a casual dialog space where interested parties can glean information about and engage with CGIAR activities. There will also be opportunities for local partners and organizations to generate content related to agricultural research in the region. CGIAR communicators in the region hope to unleash the power of social media in engaging relevant parties while furthering the goals of the CGIAR’s work in Southeast Asia.
