Project Description
Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) is in its infancy in Cambodia. Underpinning Cambodia’s water management challenges are three key obstacles: (a) the lack of cross-sectoral collaboration in the management of water resources; (b) the lack of data or scientific analyses to inform water management; and (c) the fact that no institutional mechanism exists by which inter-sectorial management and interpretation of existing or new scientific data can occur. With a focus on Stung Pursat catchment in western Cambodia, MK16 sought to address/improve these three underpinning aspects of water management. MK16 explored existing data and implemented research to fill data gaps. The project analyzed these data in a variety of ways. At the same time, this project established a multi-stakeholder platform (MSP) as a mechanism for bringing together different sector stakeholders to discuss and deliver actions that address the catchment’s water resource management challenges.
Partners
MK16 was led by Hatfield Consultants, working in partnership with the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology (MOWRAM), the Supreme National Economic Council (SNEC), the Tonle Sap Authority (TSA), and the Culture and Environment Preservation Association (CEPA).
