The Ministry of Energy and Mines’ Energy Policy and Planning Department is
drawing up plans for sustainable energy development and consumption.
“We will plan energy consumption using statistics from several relevant
sectors so we can understand the trends of energy consumption in each area
of the country,” said the department’s Director General Dr Daovong Phonekeo
yesterday.
He said population growth is directly related to energy demand and
consumption.
“Energy planning is essential in every category including charcoal, electricity, vegetal wastes and wood. It is also important for us to know the exact amount of energy used by consumers.”
Dr Daovong added that workshop participants will be able to learn about techniques for planning and predicting energy demands so they will be able to develop additional energy sources in the future.
Officials from line departments and provinces gathered yesterday in Vientiane to learn about energy planning through the use of various programmes.
The three-day workshop will continue until September 19 and is a joint project between the Energy Policy and Planning Department of the Ministry of Energy and Mines and Finland’s University of Turku’s Futures Research Centre.
